BAM has existed for eight years now as an off-state, self-financed and charge free initiative. Three years ago the museum was granted a status by the Ministry of Culture and is now in full rights of book art preservation........
The founders of the museum are City of Lodz Award laurets. Their achievements has also won them VERTE, Gazeta Wyborcza award.
The City Counsil of Lodz has voted twice to help the museum that has been in danger of eviction for five years now. Many different organizations, associations and authorities spoke for their cause. Paris Commitee for Support of Book Art Museum was created. Local and national media many times mentioned the issue. All state authorities were alarmed and the archives now mount up to hundreds of pages. But the accomplishments of the museum on an international forum seem of little or no importance, even being the guest of honour at BUCHMESSE Book Fair in Frankfurt 2000.
There was no response even after the threats the founders made of burying the collection of printing relicts for future generations of archeologists.
The premises of BAM, Henryk Grohman's villa, located in £ódŸ in 24 Tymienieckiego Str are due to bailliff auction in spring 2002 by the syndic of WESTER, a company that de facto is not even the proprietor of the building since it has never been purchased by them as required by law.
Auction money will cover bancrupcy proceedings and some of the mortgage payments because the total amount is incomparable with the bulilding real value.
The museum stands no chance of recovering the expences made on overhaul in total amount of 301,000z³ claimed as liabilities.
Local authorities offer no replacement premises
Local authorities deny their own previous ruling (despite the in-favour verdict of The Main Administrative Court) which granted the founder Janusz Tryzno compensation claims for 26,875,403z³ (which at present amounts to 623,931z³). That money would now enable the founders to take part in the bailliff auction. But this solution seems extremely difficult for the authorities to accept even though they are aware of the legal claim for it. In the meantime all they count for is the delay in administrative proceedings and the bailliff auction that would once and for all take care of all the nuisance the independent museum seems to be for them.
In this no-way-out situation the founders of the museum are left with nothing but the attempts at resquing the museum with the only possible devices for as long as they possibly can. This means:

selling their most treasured copies of CdA publishings that are still on stock
looking for possible sponsors and partners
looking for friends, advisors and allies

The rescue attempts take full scope. Anybody can help. Forum board is being opened, information is to be found on the museum's website. E-mail and snail-mail is being constantly checked for awaited response from anybody willing to help anyhow especially now that the clock seems to be ticking faster than usual.
