BOOK ART MUSEUM incorporated the
mission of CORRESPONDANCE DES ARTS FOUNDATION: carrying and supporting
any publishing activity connected with artist's book and any initiatives
refering to the idea of "correspondance des arts". The main
tasks mentioned in the statutes of the Museum approved in February
1999 by the Ministry of Culture and Art are:
collecting
wares of technical culture within the domain of printing,
paper making, book biding
collecting
artists' books
listing,
cataloguing, scientific description of collected items
safe-keeping
and protecting the collected items and offering the collection
for scientific purposes
preserving
the collected items
arranging
exhibitions, workshops, lectures etc.
publishing
catalogues, information bulletins, etc about the museum activities
collaboration
with similar museums in Poland and abroad
Realization of these tasks is
naturally connected with the promotion of book art in Poland and abroad
- such a mission was taken by the founders of The Book Art Museum
right after private small presses had been again allowed in Poland
(1980). Collecting old printing equipement The Museum has made a chance
to save and preserve the wares of material culture scraped in great
quantities in the last decade of the XX century. Originating from
an artist's printing house it refers to the similar Polish emigrant
printing houses working abroad after World War II. Being a place devoted
to art it remains open to various trends in culture and technology,
new ways of perceiving and understanding the world - thus The Book
Art Museum keeps alive and sustains its ability to make books during
the time of electronic turning-point comparable to that of Gutenberg.
